Flag of Birmingham

The flag of the City of Birmingham was adopted in 2015 and is the people’s flag - in contrast to the Council banner which has been around since 1977 and is officially flown by local government, this flag belongs to us all. The bull has long been synonymous with Birmingham’s Bull Ring, and the yellow zig zag creates an abstract ‘B’, which can also be viewed sideways as an ‘M’, which in Roman numerals means 1,000. This harks back to when Birmingham was known as the city of a thousand trades.
